2008 BCS Championship: USC vs LSU

According to our latest poll, fans want to see USC vs. LSU in the national championship game. The margin was slim, however, as LSU edged out the defending champion Florida Gators by just two votes.

This is an interesting choice because there has been something of a rivalry brewing between the fans of each school after they split the 2003 National Championship. USC fans had a legitimate beef in 2003, because as you all remember, the Trojans were left out of the BCS title game, despite being ranked #1 in both human polls. But the chatter has been pretty one-sided, as seen by LSU fans, who went as far as putting up the billboard below across the Coliseum. Fast forward to February 2007, when USC signed the top football recruit in the nation, and Louisiana's own, Joe McKnight. McKnight has been called the next Reggie Bush by some recruiting analysts, but he angered many LSU fans who assumed that he would stay home and play at LSU. I personally want a piece of Florida or the high-octane offense from West Virginia. But since I'm not too fond of LSU, I wouldn't mind putting them away on the field, thus ending all this talk about the "REAL" 2003 champion.

Texas came in as a close 3rd, I guess Trojan fans are still bitter about that loss in the 2006 Rose Bowl. The sorry Big Ten (which has 11 teams, by the way) got the least votes with Ohio State and Michigan getting a combined 7 votes. I too am tired of beating up on teams from a conference that offers no more competition than a team from the WAC.

Here are the final tallies (87 total votes):

LSU 30 votes
Florida 28
Texas 22
Ohio State 5
Michigan 2

I prefer a team from the SEC. I am so sick and tired of hearing about how their conference has the best teams. I prefer Florida because I want Rey to kill Tebow, but I also hate LSU because of their obnoxious fans. I also can't wait to see Joe McKnight torching them while wearing that intimidating cardinal jersey and Trojan war helmet.

Fuck LSU. Those inbred cajuns don't know what they're in for if they step onto the same field as the Trojans...

To add fuel to the fire, we would have smoked them back in 2003. No contest. Saban would have had to throw in the white towel in the middle of the 3rd quarter.

I agree, Fuck LSU, I don't care whether or not we meet in the title game...I'm just gonna watch USC tear through their schedule, and let the race for #2 take care of itself

mel kiper fan,
You hit the nail on the head...USC should tear through their schedule...The 8th place team in the SEC could...

The SEC isn't everything it's made out to be. The reason their teams beat up on each other is because they are all equally gay. Fuck the SEC and fuck this "Mike" guy.

LSU is overrated. There is no one on par with where USC is at. Defensively, we have more potential first and second round NFL picks on the team than the entire PAC-10 combined. There is a reason why a very accurate JDB have two passes picked off during the Trojan Huddle: the defense is insane. Finally, a return to the PC brand of take-away football that the Trojan Nation has grown to love. The Lindy pick of SC vs. LSU is off. SC will be there for certain, but their opponent will nothing more than a memory because our third championship in 5 years is a coming.

The comments here are so illogical it passes reason. LSU without any doubt LOGICALY has the best Defensive line in college football, and maybe in the history of the game. Tyson Jackson and Glenn Dorsey are the best combo in the nation without argument. For someone to say that LSU is not on par with USC is totally out of touch with the game and has no business posting such absurd comments. LSU will be absolutely loaded this year and everyone outside of USC knows this and accepts this. Considering the fact that IF USC and LSU play each other for the championship, the game will be played in New Orleans. Do you people even begin to understand what life is like outside of L.A? These people in Louisiana are obsessed with LSU and will pack the superdome out. The players become apart of that place almost. No one in their right mind would bet against LSU in such an atmosphere. Oh, as for 1st round talent here you go: Glenn Dorsey, Will Arnold, Early Doucet, Herman Johnson, Tyson Jackson, Ali Highsmith, Keiland Williams, Derry Beckwith and many more down the pipe. So stop with such illogical, flamboyant comments.

I agree with keepdapace... I'm not even an LSU fan, but I know enough about college football to understand that the SEC puts the best players on the field. No doubt USC is a solid team and I would love to see a USC vs LSU match up. And in New Orleans? Are you kidding me? Those people are crazy, there is no way Pete can win in a Super Dome NC. If they do, hats off. I do respect USC though. They are a well coached team. I think they would give LSU a hell of a game win or lose. Just like they did with Texas.

wow look the sec is so over rated! just look at last year usc smoked ark. 50 to 17 and they won LSU division. every time usc plays a sec teaM THEY GET SMOKED! tell me the last time usc was beat by an sec team. usc has won the pac. ten 5 times in a row, has 2 national championships, and had a shot at a third with texes (i thought that was usc b game that night). one game away last year from going to arizona. they also have been rated number one 4 years in a row for having the best recuting, and ranked in the top 5 for 4 years. they are real contender every year. what you got on that LSU!!!!!! SC is money!!!!

So you smoked Arkansas the first game of the year with a wide reciever, Robert Johnson, at QB because Casey Dick was hurt, good job! And as for your National Championship in '03 who has the crystal football, I believe that it is in Baton Rouge. And no one cares who wins the PAC 10 because it sucks and nobody cares that you won it five years in a row. If you play a decent schedule and not played media hyped Notre Dame every year, then you might have not been bumped from the '03 game. USC has been choking whenever the pressure has been on the past few years: UCLA '06 and Texas '05. If you are such a great team then why did you win only one national championship against a shitty Oklahoma team that LSU proved was terrible destroying the year before. I wanted LSU and USC to meet in '03 and even last year and I hope you guys don't fuck up again this year so we can meet in the NC.

haha, yeah i hope usc tears through their schedule too...because my high school team could. sc fans, get over yourselves. your conference is wack and you won one championship. that's not a dynasty by any stretch of the imagination. if you have a dynasty, then so do we.

we would have slaughtered any team in the nation in the sugar bowl in '03 (and yes, that includes the mighty trojans out of the mean pac 10). and we still will. but i guess we'll just have to see this year in the national championship game. just try not to drop one to oregon state or arizona along the way. we'll be there (despite the fact we play a schedule that you wouldn't win eight games in). and then we'll walk all over your cocky southern california asses and send you right back where you belong.

Chuck and Pringle - you sound more like potato chips than actual football players. Try keeping pace this year and dont get beat up by your cousins all over the south. It will be fun to see a trojan slay a tiger.

"Mike the Tiger" said...

Just to add to what Pringle stated below about the USC win versus Arkansas. Don't forget that the second place vote getter for the Heisman Trophy, Sophmore Darren McFadden, had a dislocated toe for this game as well. The PAC-10 sucks and the SEC has the best conference. When LSU smokes USC in the championship game this year, Joe McKnight will be sitting on the sidelines wishing that he stayed in Baton Rouge.

ill bet anything that after we beat these usc motherfuckers in the ship they delete this website cuz they wont b able to take the embarassing comments theyve had coming for a long time.

Alright lets think about this. USC is ranked number 1 over LSU for one reason. Their schedule is week! The so called "experts" who are all on the USC bandwagon figure it a safe pick because they believe that in such a week conference it will be easy for the trojans to win out. Rightfully so. I'm sorry but anyone who really knows college football knows that if you were to have USC play LSU'S schedule the mighty trojans would probably loose 2 games. Look, I don't deny the fact that USC is a good football team, but their is no way that you will convince me that USC goes down a harder road than any SEC team throughout the season. Does the lack 10 play a championship at the end of the season? No! The SEC does, which makes it even more difficult. When it is all said and done this year LSU will have played 6-7 top 25 teams, USC might play 3. As far as the national championship is concerned, USC fans need to pray that they don't meet the tigers in NOLA. Their is no way that they will beat us on our own turf!

LSU vs. USC would be awesome 2c in this year's BCS championship game. USC has a strong, talented team. I think they are overrated because of the "creampuff" schedule year after year. Nebraska will probably stop them from reaching the superdome in NO. If there was a playoff system like NFL, you wouldnt see them at the top as often. LSU is talented and a well coached team. I believe they lose some games they shouldn't which worries me with them. However, I do believe they have the talent and skills to tighten the helmet on the trojan's head and be crowned the 2008 BCS national champions if USC makes it there this year.

Dear LSU fans (and I'm only addressing the ones who are so narrow-minded they're incapable of seeing things for what they really are),

I will agree with you - the SEC is the strongest conference. The statistics prove it enough. As for as STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE is concerned, the PAC-10 wins it.

Here is some proof:

Mark Schlabach from ESPN, ranks USC as having the 4th toughest schedule in the country, along with 2 other Pac 10 schools in the top 10. Only 2 SEC schools earned merit in his top 10, and neither was LSU. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?colum
nist=schlabach_mark&id=2923693

Rivals.com has USC's schedule ranked as the 8th toughest, wheareas they have LSU's ranked 18th. http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID
=681852

Phil Steele has 8 Pac 10 schools ranked with his toughest schedules for 2007. Yep that is correct, the top 8 toughest schedules by Phil Steele are as such: Washington, USC, Washington State, Arizona, UCLA, Stanford, Oregon State, and California. Oregon and Arizona State also rank in his top 15 as well. Where is LSU's schedule rank according to Mr. Steele? 52nd. And just to let you know, Mr. Steele's magazine has been the best predictor of College Football over the past 8 years when compared to other pre-season magazines. http://www.stassen.com/preseason/review/

PS: I love how emotional the LSU fans are becoming. We say a few words, and you become upset; very angry and agitated - to say the least. It's nice to know that a few USC fans can control your emotions. How does it feel, dear LSU fans, to know that we have power over you? You can't let us control how you feel? You have to be stronger than that. ;)

Man for livin in Southern California ya'll are some angry folks. Fuck LSU? At least we don't steal everyone's recruits because our school is in Hollywood. Have fun watching you're quarterback this year and all the other players you have from the south east. USC couldn't beat one kid from Texas when they had the best team ever, ever in college football ever. And you want to say that you really won in 03 just because you got shunned? I seem to remeber ya'll winning 1 championship against Ok when an undefeated Auburn watched on TV. Be carefull what you wish for. We play pretty good ball down here. GOOD D. Enjoy the wait for the one big game ya'll might get this year.
