Representing #81 on our countdown is Gerald Washington. Washington, a 25 year old college transfer, spent four years in the Navy after graduating from high school. Washington was to compete at tight end last season, however due to do various injuries he was forced to sit out the season using his redshirt. This spring Washington turned in his white jersey to help contribute on the defensive side of the ball, adding depth to the defensive end position. At 6'5" 260 lbs Washington is more than capable of being a dominant force on the defensive side of the ball.
Coach Holt was impressed with his new defensive weapon this spring. I often observed Washington stay after practice this spring to work on his technique with the rest of the defensive line. If Gerald Washington puts in as much time learning his new position and studying film as he obviously does in the gym he will be a force to be reckoned with.
