The first weekend of college football provided some interesting games, disappointing teams and the biggest upset in the history of college football. I think the Appalachian St. Mountaineer mascot, Yosef, sums it up best.
The biggest story of the weekend was the colossal upset of the No. 5 Michigan Wolverines at the hands of Division 1-AA Appalachian St. Mountaineers. Wow. Don't get me wrong, the Mountaineers are no ordinary team. They are the two-time defending Division 1-AA champions and they currently hold a 27 game home winning streak, the second longest in the nation behind our very own USC Trojans (33). But let me point out one very important fact: this is MICHIGAN we're talking about. Michigan!!! The Wolverines. The Big House. Two Heisman hopefuls. Blue and Maize. If Lloyd Carr was on the hot seat before, he better get some Aloe Vera for that third-degree burn his ass cheeks just received.
Decent showing by the Pac-10 this weekend. Oregon beat Houston. Oregon St. defeated Utah. Cal defeated Tennessee from the big bad SEC in a barnburner 45-31. I hate Cal, but I don't hate them as much as I hate the SEC, so fuck that conference.
In other Top 25 news, Texas barely squeaked by Arkansas St. Oklahoma, Louisville, Penn St. and West Virginia all dominated.
Notre Dame got wrecked by Georgia Tech at home. It's going to be fun tearing the Irish a new one on October 20.
I wish USC had showed more against a lowly Idaho, but I hope that Patrick Turner, Chauncey Washington and Josh Pinkard can remedy some of that when they return. Big props to Jeff Byers for mauling people yesterday. We will have a full write-up on the game shortly.
Oh yeah, Cary Harris and Desmond Reed still suck.
