Freshman QB Jimmy Clausen (above), Notre Dame's prized recruit who many Irish fans consider to be the "chosen one" or "second coming," will make his first career start on the road Saturday against Joe Pa's Penn State Nittany Lions. Any team who's ever traveled to Happy Valley knows that Penn State is very tough at home, so it may not be a very glorious debut for Mr. Clausen. This is what awaits Clausen on the other side of the tunnel...
Notre Dame is coming off an embarassing 33-3 home loss to Georgia Tech, but the schedule doesn't get any easier. After Penn State, the Irish have road games at Michigan, Purdue, and UCLA, as well as home games against Michigan State and Boston College before USC hits South Bend on October 20th. It is very possible that Notre Dame will lose their first 8 games. I'm not sure that this is what the Notre Dame faithful thought year 3 of the Weis era would look like, especially after a fairly impressive first year in 2005. During Weis' first two years, we saw a very potent offense in South Bend -- though it needed to be explosive because the Irish couldn't stop anybody defensively -- but now the Irish are equally bad on offense as they are on defense. Time to step up your game Charlie "Mom Jeans" Weis...
I actually feel a little bad for ND, but as many of my colleagues would say, "Fuck Notre Dame!" and "Fuck Jimmy Clausen!" I'll be watching this game closely on Saturday, give 'em hell Joe Pa!
Fight On!
