Countdown to Kickoff: 10 Days

As we continue on our daily countdown towards the 2007 season, we are now just 10 days away from the opening kickoff against the University of Idaho. There's a double shot of Trojans wearing #10 this season, senior QB and Heisman frontrunner John David Booty and junior LB Brian Cushing...

Booty is back for his second season as the Trojans starting QB. It has long been believed that all players, but especially QBs, improve the most in the time between year 1 and year 2 as starters. That is why expectations are high for Booty, who had a very solid season last year. He is surrounded by some young, but very talented playmakers that he can distribute the ball to, so hopefully offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will open up the playbook this season and let Booty gun it. Cushing is back to his preferred strong side LB spot after spending last season as the elephant in Pete Carroll's 3-4 defense. He is coming off a dominating performance against Michigan in the Rose Bowl and will look to carry that momentum into this season.

Peyton Manning visits USC

Scott Wolf reported on Tuesday that Peyton Manning visited campus after shooting a commercial at the Coliseum.

Apparently, Peyton wanted to get a workout in to stay sharp. This cat was on a business trip shooting a commericial and wasn't even at his team's practice facility, or throwing to his own WR's, yet he still wanted to get some work in. Wow! No wonder he's the NFL's MVP and probably the greatest QB ever. It's great that some of our players got the privelage, even if just for a few moments, to be around a guy like Peyton. Hopefully they soaked in some of his knowledge, especially fellow QB John David Booty, and learn how to deal with pressure and how to perform on the big stage.

Countdown to Kickoff: 73 Days

As we continue on our daily countdown towards the 2007 season, we've now arrived at #73. The 2007 Heisman Trophy will be awarded to its 73rd recipient this December, and USC QB John David Booty has emerged as a leading candidate...

Just 73 more days until Booty kicks off his 2007 Heisman campaign. Should he win it, it would be the 8th bronze statue for the Trojans, who are currently tied with Notre Dame and Ohio State for the most all-time with 7 each.
